PART TWO: From Jim "Jimbo" Mathus

Dear Brethren and Sistren,

Thank you for checking in at the Mammoth website. In the coming weeks and months, I plan to visit here regularly to answer questions, offer comfort to the sick and shut-in, give practical advice to the common man, etc. You can rest assured knowing that S.N.Z. is working hard behind the scenes to continue to bring the finest in listening entertainments to the young and old.

First order of business today is to send out thanks out to the crowds in Philly and N.Y.C. You helped bring S.N.Z. back with a bang and you know who you are.

Next, of utmost importance to this message is the following sad tale. On Dec. 7th, at our Irving Plaza show in N.Y.C., an overzealous and perhaps unknowing fan mistook our horn section's chart book for a souvenir and took it from the foot of the stage. The book contains full horn arrangements for much of our past repertoire and many new songs from our upcoming release. It represents round the clock work from the horn section and myself over the past three months in preparing a new show and CD for the public.

A plea goes out to anyone who took this or knows who took it or was standing by in front of the horn section at the end of the show and may have seen someone take it. Please return it to us, no questions asked, and we will be indebted to you for much saved time and hard work.

--

PART ONE: From the SNZ management

"Pre-Holiday Greetings from Squirrel Nut Zippers! Thanks to all who came out to shows this week in New York and Philadelphia ... we hope you enjoyed the new lineup, a smattering of new material, and the award-winning animated video for 'Ghost of Stephen Foster'!

Seems that an overzealous fan at Irving Plaza in NYC (1207) may have yanked a critical, one-of-a-kind binder full of horn charts from the stage at the end of the band's set. These are arrangements that Jimbo painstakingly scribed for our horn section, and sadly, we are without a backup copy. HELP! If anyone visiting this site has any info regarding the whereabouts of this folder, please email ehsfuzz@aol.com as soon as possible. No questions asked ... reward if need be ... we just need those charts back in hand! Thanks very much for any assistance."

--
A note from me:

Now, I know that we all love SNZ and anything and everything that we can "get a hold of" that involves them, but this is crazy! To whomever may have gotten his/her hand on the binder, please return it. As fans, do we not want our beloved SNZ to succeed and not disappoint other fans and potential "future fans" who want to see SNZ in concert?? After all, it's the Holidays...please do the right thing.

01 December 1999

Ok, so it only took me 3 months to update this site. :-)

There are a lot of new and very exciting happenings; SNZ is touring again, SNZ has sadly lost two of our beloved members but gained three *(!), Tom Maxwell has an incredibly fabulous web site filled with lots of info about him and his budding career (outside of SNZ) and many, many more!

Oh, did I mention that I'll be attending the SNZ concert this Saturday, 5 December 1999, in Pennsylvania?! I'm so excited! Hopefully, if all goes well, I will have a pleasant surprise for y'all when I get back!

AND, when I finally get settled from all the "screaming" and "yelling" and "soaking in" Zippers music from the concert, I will begin my major updates to this site. Please be patient with me.

* SNZ welcomes Tim Smith on saxophones, Dave Wright on trombone and Reese Gray on piano!

25 August 1999 [A mini-update]

Just wanted to update the main page with the new trivia by Ken.

Extended July's "Song of the Month" through October.

--- -- -> iN tHe wOrKs <- -- ---
I have been working on getting a new "SNZ Webring" started. [The one that is up now doesn't seem to have anyone maintaining it...my site has been it it's queue forever (?!), waiting to be added to the ring.] Now, it's a matter of my taking the time to set it up.

This site will see a lot of action/updates/changes in the coming months, starting October. Right now, I am wonderfully swamped with wedding plans...YES, I am getting married in less than a month!!

Tweaked Kat's Jazz Squad page.

02 April 1999

I started a page dedicated to Katharine Whalen's Jazz Squad. Check it out! It will be accessible through Katharine's page.

30 March 1999

As promised, I have scanned the photo of Katharine. Have a look! And, I am truly enjoying listening to her debut solo album. :-)

As I opened my inbox this morning, I quickly skimmed down the list of senders (as I usually do to sort out & trash spam mail). And, as I was going down the list, guess what I saw?? An e-mail from Ken Mosher! I was so surprised and excited at the same time. Can you imagine?! He complimented me on this site, which I accept(ed) with high regard. Thanks a bunch, Ken! It means a lot to me.

27 March 1999

I'm excited to let y'all know that I got my promo copy of "Katharine Whalen's Jazz Squad" yesterday, as well as a big (8 1/2 x11) black & white portrait of Katharine herself!* As soon as I listen to it...oh, at least ten** times, I will share my thoughts on it. I also received a copy of "Legacy"*--It will be a great weekend after all!!

[I will try to scan Katharine's portrait sometime this weekend -- she looks absolutely beautiful!]

* Thanks so much, Kerry!!
** Yes, I did write "ten"...I'm already sure that I will love it!

26 March 1999

Added the lyrics to "The Inevitable".

25 March 1999

"Legacy" was released on 23 March 1999.

17 March 1999

Mickey Mouse cartoon still in development.

Changed the SNZ Webring graphic found on the main page. I don't know when my site will be added to the webring -- I even tried to write the webring master, but to no avail (the e-mail address is unresolveable.) So, my site lives in the SNZ Webring Queue, along with several others.

In hopes of literally trying to get a start on this web site (i.e. getting the word out about SNZ, getting more hits, etc...), I've signed up with HitBOX. The graphic/text link is located on the main page as well, right next to the SNZ Webring.

15 March 1999

This site is now a part of the Squirrel Nut Zippers Webring! I've added a link to the webring on the main page. Be sure to check out other fan dedicated SNZ web sites. (Note: I don't know when they're going to index my site...pretty soon, I hope.)

07 March 1999

Added some words about Jim, Katharine, Chris, and Je.

Many of the information about SNZ (i.e. new album info, tour dates, etc...) you see around here will most likely be coming from an inside source from Mammoth Records. So, in other words, I am giving credit where credit is due! I have added a link to the Mammoth Web Site on this page and on The News page.

I am working really hard on getting The Links page organized and ready to go. If anyone is interested in a link exchange (between our SNZ-related sites), let me know.

01 March 1999

A re-broadcast of the 1997 SNZ concert in Denver?

Sign up for the SNZ Mailing List (owned by me, hosted by ONElist) where you can discuss anything and everything about SNZ with other fans. This is also a good way to find out new information on SNZ, as well as new information on this web site.

22 February 1999

My SNZ site officially opens today. Here's to a successful year!

Let me just write down a few words about this site.

As you may have already observed, this site is dedicated to one of the most musically gifted bands in the world; And, they call themselves SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS (SNZ). Because the SNZ are on a 6-month hiatus (which began in January 1999), I will have a little time to develop this site, accordingly, with the band's history and past accomplishments. We all await their return on stage later this year. So, stay tuned to this site for upcoming events and information on SNZ!
